How it's built

Methodology & caveats

An index is only as trustworthy as its method. Here's exactly how this one is computed — and what it can't yet tell you.

📐 How the index is computed

1We fix a basket of products tracked across both dates — matched items only, no swapping the cart.
2For each product we compare its current winner price to its price about 7 days ago.
3We take the median change across the basket. The median ignores typos and one-off spikes, so a single mispriced listing can't move the number.
4Extreme outliers are trimmed, then we rebase to 100 — so 100 = no change, 101.3 = about 1.3% pricier, 98.7 = about 1.3% cheaper.

⚠️ Read it honestly

This series is young — only about two weeks of daily data so far, so today's number is a short-horizon snapshot, not a long trend.

As tracking continues it will grow into a full daily time series you can chart over months.

It measures listed marketplace winner prices on one platform — not a national CPI, and not what any one shopper pays.
